The Law self justifies and hardens the heart

Mat 19: 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” 7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?” 8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

City Harvest Church is a key member of the National Council of Churches Singapore, and Love Singapore, whose insistence on the Ten Commandments and gays to be put to jail, surprises with their hidden sins in the court case in Singapore.

Xtron paid millions to pay for Sun Ho and promote her singing in Hollywood, yet did not cover the expenses from the album sales. The massive short fall was covered by the church bonds even though strictly no church sources directly funded Sun Ho for Xtron was supposedly independent.

All the while the church was told that Sun ho's success was due solely to her capabilities with the video of the auditor vouching for it. The church building fund was to buy Suntec with no mention of fully funding Sun Ho.

The court will decide in due time whether they are guilty of violating the secular law.

However, the spirit of the biblical law was clearly violated of integrity, honesty, righteousness, and Gospel witness. They were operating in darkness rather than having a transparency in the light.

The religious Law never changes the heart. It just makes us self righteous, and self justifies our actions as not contradicting the letter of the law, but much against the spirit of the law.

Yet, for gays we insists on the strictest interpretation of the law even though the same sex acts mentioned in the bible was in the context of faith worship of other gods by the Jews. There was no mercy given.

The ongoing court case in Singapore where Pastor Kong Hee and five are fighting against alleged claims that they were diverting tens of millions from the church building fund have ultimately three defense:-

a. It's part of the church cross over ministry for evangelism

b. The Auditors (Brother Foong) OK'ed it, so it must be legit.

c. It was all the fault of the Investment Manager, Brother Eng Han.

It reminds me of the conversation between Jesus, and the Pharisees on divorce. The Pharisees tried to blame it on Moses for allowing it, and Moses which represented the Law surely would legitimise it.

But Moses permitted divorce, because of the strong will and insistence of the people of faith, not because it was right, moral, or righteous.

Similarly, the auditors are trying their best to distance themselves and not to be implicated for something obviously driven strongly by the City Harvest Church leadership.

The lame excuse given by Christian leaders not to "judge", when the large truck load of evidences to the fact was presented showing their hidden schemes is plain denial.

It is a denial that our law based theology produces only lawlessness whilst we claim to be defenders of morality against gays. But the public will only see it as gross hypocrisy, and being more sinful than the world itself.

Ultimately, the precious name and ministry of Jesus Christ is being judged, not Pastor Kong Hee or City Harvest Church.
