Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it wasgood; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.  

In Nepal, the davastating earthquake and the subsequent landslides in the Himalaya mountains in the peak of the climbing period have caused a very high death toll of at least 10,000 people.

Are the Nepalese totally innocent and righteous before man and God as to prevent the quake? No, neither are we. We are all sinners. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We see gays being persecuted by people of faith in Nepal, the need for underground groups to minister Christ to gay people rejected by the religious institutions.

Some Christians asked where was God and since they couldn't think of a progressive answer called it a mystery.

It was not really a mystery in that God has left mankind, the presence of God in the Holy Spirit has chosen not to strive in the daily affairs on mankind just before the flood.

Before the flood, we descended into mass worship of gods which are angelic dark powers, of which today there is little difference except these angels are banned from having sex with the daughters of man (whether they cover their heads of not). These were people of faith. The marriage between the demons and the daughters of man were the real abomination and not gay marriage.

The Holy Spirit of God would not tarry with the worship of Satan, in the manner when they attributed the miracles of Jesus to demons, this was an unforgivable sin.

If God had been involved in Nepal, there would be a far worst judgement day. He would have to be involved in every affairs of mankind, and that would limit our freedom of choice. If we could not commit evil, how could we commit good and decide to follow Jesus in our lives.

The Nepalese thought it was judgement from God and being people of faith slaughtered more than 2,500 innocent animals including cows to appease their goddess. This was totally unncessary and needly loss of lives. For all creatures great and small are God's creation.

The quake was a natural event and not caused by any god. The question is why were they climbing a mountain and building very flimsy dwellings next to an earthquake fault line?

The question was not where was God rather we have bought much harm upon ourselves by over building in a very narrow valley prone to landslides and earthquakes with poorly built dwellings. Surely, the deaths of 2,500 animals can't solve the issue. If the divine had stopped the earthquake, He would have to stop every quake.

In Gen 1, we have God in creation bringing light and life to the world. In the course of history, darkness came and distorted this light.

In John, the light from the beginning of time is Jesus Christ, and this light came back 2,000 years ago, that we may be led back to God, and that there may be light on earth through the hands and feet of Christians bearing and reflecting this light.

Hence, God was present in the sufferings of the people of Nepal. He was constrained from stopping the quake, but as Christians we are His angels of light to bring help and support to the suffering in the times of need.

God is also present in the suffering of the GLBT peoples by society and by people of faith. He has called many Christians to be an angel of light, to show the light of God, to reflect God's grace, mercy and love in Jesus Christ.

Natural and man made disasters will happen and even worst will come with the global warming. We ask "Where is God?", but the answer as Christians is that God has sent us and called us out by name for a time such as this to be salt and light to a loving, merciful and gracious God, a loving Father.
