Marriage Protection Amendment: This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!

WASHINGTON, 08 June 2006, The Senate rejected a constitutional amendment, the Marriage Protection Amendment championed by the Christian Right and the Catholics, which was intended to ban gay marriages. The senators' vote was 49-48 to limit debate and bring the amendment to a yes-or-no decision. That was 11 short of the 60 needed, killing the measure in the Senate for this year. In a cynical and patronizing political move to rally a conservative base, President Bush and the Republican Senate are again using Gays as a scapegoat. There is no proven reason how gay marriage causes divorce. Instead, financial hardships are more like causes with the median family income is stagnating and under increasing pressure from higher gasoline costs and interest rates. In last month's Washington Post-ABC News poll. When voters were asked about the most important issue in the coming November's legislative election, they chose the economy, Iraq, immigration, gas prices, terrorism and health care. Same-sex marriage was rated below 0.5 percent of responses. The Christian Right and the Pope do not like homosexuals. Or, when they are being charitable, do not like homosexual lifestyles. "The gays are aggressive! Gays have called war! Gays are attacking traditional marriage!". Bishop Harry Jackson was shouting these words outside the Capitol yesterday morning, at a rally for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.Whlist Christians may sincerely consider homosexuality as a sin, it does not give them any right to react in an agressive, warlike, immoral and wicked manner to advance an injustice against a minority group. Foes of the Gay Marriage may be rejoicing, but is there grave unintended spiritual consequences of their lifestyle of continuous sin especially as leaders of the Christian faith over decades against gays? With this rejection at the senate, is the tide starting to change?

(Isa 58:2-5)  Yet they seek Me daily, And delight to know My ways, As a nation that did righteousness, And did not forsake the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; They take delight in approaching God. 'Why have we fasted,' they say, 'and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?' "In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, And exploit all your laborers. Indeed you fast for strife and debate, And to strike with the fist of wickedness. You will not fast as you do this day, To make your voice heard on high. Is it a fast that I have chosen, A day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, And to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Would you call this a fast, And an acceptable day to the LORD?

As a nation of America, they sought after God, to do His will, and even fervent in prayer to God to bless America. They take delight in serving God and to make America a Christian nation of righteousness. In God we trust has been the motto, the support of religion that has brought Bush to power in 2004 which he now must pay homage to in order to energise his political base for the critical mid term elections in November view of the Iraq war which has all but destroyed his credibility and ratings. That follows a series of setbacks for the White House in the last year including its handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and an aborted deal to allow an Arab company to manage U.S. ports that have driven down Bush's job-approval ratings. A Pew Research Center poll released week ending 09 June found that the president's rating stood at 33 percent and that he was even losing support among all segments of Republican voters. The gay marriage was a desperate attempt to turn this tide around.

President Bush and his most Reverend suporters finds delight that they are righteous and have the high moral grounds against Gays and their apparently lewd lifestyles, but in the very same occasion they spoke of Christ and his righteousness, they exploit the least in the community, Gays. They pray for strive. In their self righteouness, they asked that they may be instruments justice but became instruments of persecution. When they should have been humble and admit the mistakes they have made going to war, and mis-managing the economy, to reflect in remorse in a day prayer, instead they have made it a day of exploitation. But will it instead have the unintended consequences of turning the tide for Gay marriages. God will not listen to their prayers to ban Gay marriage, but will instead bless the marriages because of the discrimination that Gays have so unjustly suffered.

Listening to President Bush, you'd never know that the nation is having a debate over gay marriage. In his last three speeches on the marriage protection amendment, never did he once mentioned "Gays" or "Gay couples" as if his conscience convicts him. Deep in his heart maybe Bush knew that Gay bashing is not righteous but his hands are tied. For the president, the argument of marriage as between a man and a woman is an argument of heterosexuals, by heterosexuals and for heterosexuals. But heterosexuals already have marriage. The reason this debate is going on is because homosexuals do not. Bush said this in his most recent address on the issue: "As this debate goes forward, we must remember that every American deserves to be treated with tolerance, respect and dignity". What Americans is he talking about? The ones he consciously never named in his speech? Does he seriously think gays are being treated with "decency" or "respect" when he will not even mention that the debate over same-sex marriage is about them? We have reverted to the Catholic inquisitions of the 15th to 17th centuries where the ends justifies the means, in this case the lack of integrity and fundamental injustice justifies the political mileage and strive for power. When the leader of a great "Christian" nation exploits his office and power, God will not listen to President Bush when he prays for the nation at the ceremony at the White House to commemorate the National Day of Prayer. Bush prayed that "God is not on the side of any nation, yet we know he is on the side of justice. And it is the deepest strength of America that from the hour of our founding, we have chosen justice as our goal." Will his very own speech condemns him, as America's injustic against Gays reaches to the heavens above and God sides no more with America.

ISAIAH or "Yahweh saves." was active in Judah about 740 to 701 B.C. During this period of time, the petty states of Palestine--Syria, Philistia, Moab, Edom, Ammon, Arabia, Tyre, Israel, and Judah--were ultimately conquered or made tributary to Assyria. During this period of impending trouble and treat, the people of Judah sought salvation from God. Yet, God was seemingly silent in their time of request despite Judah eagerly seeking the Lord through fasting. Their attempts appeared to be in vain, and both Judah and Israel ultimately fell to the foreign invaders. Isaiah whose name aptly describes Yahweh as our savior prophesized that the reason for their unanswered prayers lie not in God not answering but that their indifference and injustice to the poor and outcast in their midst was a hindrance to receiving from God. But God did ultimately answered by sending His son Jesus Christ for which Isaiah prophesized the coming of the messiah. Indeed, it was an anti-climax when Jesus came 700 years later, for He did not bring salvation from the foreign occupiers (which were then the Romans), but He brought equality at the cross at Calvary . Whether one is rich or poor, rejected or accepted, if one believed in Jesus, he become a child of God. There is only one class in the kingdom of God, not whether rich or poor, gay or straight but whether in Christ or without Christ. Likewise, the gross injustice against gays in our midst is simply incompatible with God and warrants a closure of heavenly blessings and hindrance to answered prayers. Is it worth to bring destruction upon ourselves and our nation for an unimportant issue such as Gay marriage? Judah fell to Assyria in 701 BC. Will equally tragic diasasters happen to America? when facing calamity and eminent danger to the state of the nation.

With the fist on wickedness and injustice, they have denied the basic rights of Gays of marriage, of a life with the ones they loved, and the resulting recognition and community support to further strengtened their marriage. Marriage comes with it a host of benefits, from hospital visitation rights, welfare, to inheritance and child adoption. It is a strong incentive to being faithful thus limiting the spread of STDs .  All this denied unjustly in the name of defending a heterosexual marriage which is under strained for totally diffent reasons. Now the Christian Right is taking to the highest forum in the land not satisfied that through their effort the states have all but banned Gay marriages with the few exception of Mass. and possibly Washington state. Forty-five of the 50 states have already acted to define traditional marriage in ways that would ban same-sex marriage — 19 with state constitutional amendments and 26 with statutes. Will God not see the fundamental injustice?

(James 2:13)  For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Indeed, calamity may soon hit, for the Republican senators have chosen Gay Marriage as a fundamental issue to divert attention the real issues Minority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) brought a list to the floor Monday. "High gas prices, the war in Iraq, the national debt, health care, senior citizens, education, crime, trade policy, stem cell research". In seven states, more than 40 percent of our children are born out of wedlock. Nationally, more than one out of three of our children are born to unmarried parents. 37 million people in the United States live in poverty, one in every eight Americans. Nearly 46 million people live without health insurance, about 16 percent of the population. The costs for brand-name prescription drugs have also increased twice as fast as the rate of inflation. Each issue begging for the president's attention, each issue being ignored.". Will God not see the injustice? of making Gays as scapegoats. Will judgement come!. It will be a judgement without much mercy because the Christian Right and the Government have shown no mercy. There have been many opportunities to relent, but no, gays are continually pursued without mercy to the highest law platform of the land even when there is no need to.

(Job 38:11 NKJV) When I said, 'This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!'

I believe to word of God today to the Christian Church in America and in Singapore is that for long enough the waves of the proud, Christians proud of their self holiness have persecuted and oppressed gays. The nations and the states in America have banned Gay marriages but this was not sufficient for these proud people. They wanted to inflict the final indignity upon gays by enshrining discrimination against them in the American Constitution. They did it praying in the name of Jesus, hence effectively blamming God. Jesus again gets the blame from non Christians. Enough is enough says the Lord of Hosts. Thus far they have come to the highest plenum in the land, but no farther shall they go. It is the end of the road for anti-gay marriage acts. There is only one way, to turn back. The tide has started to turn. Soon, the closets will be finally opened, and my people shall be free. But judgement is awaiting unless Christians humble ourselves to admit our sin against gays and begin to pray for mercy for they have not shown the grace and mercy of God reflected at the cross of calvary to gays and as a result grossly perverted the message of the Gospel from that of God's love and death for them. Less we too will be denied the relationships with our loved ones just as we have denied gays of this basic human rights.

As Gays let us have mercy for in James 2:13, mercy triumphs over judgement. We stand persecuted and oppressed but in return grace and mercy must we display for judgement is of the Lord and not of us. When we forgive and released our rights of judgement against the Christian Right in Singapore to God, God himself will take up our defence and be our defence counsel. We need to be humble for we need the grace of God like no other group. For strong community and religious homophobia and the ban in gay marriages and homosexuality, have resulted in self condemnation, much pain, backsliding of faith in Christ, and rampant unfaithful open sexual relationships. The ex-gay movements have left their long trail of lives destroyed of many earnest Christians, confused minds, many who now do not go to church disillusioned by institutionalized christianity. Christianity is much disdained by the Gay community as the churches oppressed us in Jesus' name. (James 4:6) But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.". In our deepest pain of rejection and loneliness, let us forgive and be humble knowing that all have sinned and need forgiveness and grace in Christ Jesus. We need more grace. Much more Grace, but our God is a God of much more. Grace to be healed, grace to believe and know Jesus, grace for long term same sex relationships, grace for increasing faith, grace to love, grace to accept ourselves as who God created us as.

His grace be with you and may God's blessing fall upon you in all that you do..... Seek first the kingdom of God and although things appear so far from perfect in our lives with so much dissapointments and pain, let us hold on together to walk this fight of faith believing and focusing on Jesus Christ.
