The
Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin’s “restoring honor” rally at the National
Memorial on the very same day and place that Dr Martin Luther King gave
his “I have a dream speech” drew 100,000 arch conservative and religious
people. Ironically, this were the very people who would have stood
fervently against
Martin Luther King, and now claiming his mantle for change. Martin
Luther had a dream, a dream that even one day black man and woman would
be free even to become the President of America.
It was about social justice at its finest and Obama was the
ultimate personification of that “dream” of a free America for whom
Glenn Beck is now criticizing.
The rally billed as paying tribute to America's military and those "who
embody our nation's founding principles of integrity, truth and honor”,
tried to change history. For America was founded not on a Christian
Faith but on a foundation of freedom to choose one’s religion to
maintain one’s integrity truth and honor, for America was founded by
Freemasons including most of those in the Declaration of Independence on
July 4, 1776. Their faith was
contradictory to the Christian Faith and Washington the Capital has
significant historical landmarks which are all Masonic symbols of the
occult rather than statues of Jesus and the Cross.
On Obama, "You see, it's all about victims and victimhood; oppressors
and the oppressed; reparations, not repentance; collectivism, not
individual salvation. I don't know what that is, other than it's not
Muslim, it's not Christian. It's a perversion of the gospel of Jesus
Christ as most Christians know it," Beck said on the Fox News Interview.
During his “I have a dream” rally, Glenn Beck the American Conservative
has stirred up a Christian revival mood amongst the GOP and the
Christian Right voters with the name of God mentioned several times, and
Obama condemned being a non Christian or at best a Liberal Christian.
Yet, ironically for all the talk on a nation under God, Glenn Beck is
not a Christian. He is a Mormon whose faith is not founded by Christ but
by a polygamist who definitely believed in marriage but one man with
many wives and underage sex.
America was instead influenced early on to become a great nation because
of true Christians, because of the devout “Mayflower” puritan Christian
pilgrims from Europe who instituted the first Thanksgiving in 1621.
The pilgrims were English
Separatists departing from Plymouth England to Plymouth
Massachusetts on a 1620 journey
with 102 passengers and a crew of 30. They came to America on the vision
"the Lord has more truth and light yet to break forth out of his holy
Word," arriving at Plymouth on the ship Mayflower after having
been exiled in Netherlands for 11 years.
On the eve of their departure from Netherlands, their Pastor, Mr
Robinson, said that it was time to move past the Reformation, for the
Lutherans will go no further than Luther, the Calvanist, Calvin, but for
the Pilgrims to “embrace further light”.
Four hundred years later, on July 4, 2005, the United Church of Christ,
the direct descendents of the Mayflower pilgrims, voted overwhelmingly
to "affirm equal marriage rights for couples regardless of gender,"
thereby becoming the first major church in the US to support gay
marriage. The UCC like their
predecessors were willing to embrace further light because their history
was based on suffering and rejection of the “other”. Yet, America may
not have changed much unable to distinguish the message of God’s grace
and mercy through Jesus Christ, versus, Joseph Smith, the Mormon God of
Glenn Beck. Why is America so drawn to idol worship?
(Exo 32:1 NKJV) Now when the
people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people
gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come, make us gods that
shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out
of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him."
(Exo 32:4 NKJV) And he
received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving
tool, and made a molded calf. Then they said, "This is your god, O
Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!"
The question of religion is pertinent, for Beck had insinuated whether
Obama was a “real” Christian? No one really knows, but one thing for
sure, Beck is not a Christian and America is rallying after the gods
that they made up just as the Jews rallied after the golden calf made by
Aaron.
The American Public has been so disheartened by the rich getting richer
and Obama seemingly offering to bail out the rich banks and financial
institutions which were deemed too big to fail yet Main Street suffered
with little bailout. The major banks in return made billions and did not
lend the money to the poor. The
property prices have plummeted effectively resulting in substantial
losses to many. With the high unemployment (some say 18% much higher
than the official 10%), the loan defaults are at a scary pace. Hence,
the rally was a rally of wide spread discontentment and fear with no
easy answers. Glenn Beck gave them what they wanted to hear, simple
quick fixes, just as Aaron gave the golden calf to the Jews to worship.
The Mayflower pilgrims waited 11 years in exile yet their devotion and
faith to God remained. They still gave thanks and they did not grow
hostile towards those who persecuted them. Yet, we have now a “fast
food” generation who wants quick fixes and easily forgetting the
culprits - GOP former President Bush who set the path they are now in
with tax cuts, wars, and a big deficit which like a train cannot be
easily stopped once in motion without setting the nation in anarchy such
as reducing social security, or the
military, or withdrawing abruptly from Iraq and Afghanistan.
The fact that Sarah Palin stands accusing Obama speaks poorly of her
integrity and truth, for she was after all part of the GOP who had
caused this slide down the slippery slope of economic disaster. It is
all politics to leverage on the fear and discontentment of the masses to
promote a fundamentalist Christian agenda with an audience so easily
mislead as not to see that Glenn Beck was not even a Christian.
Unfortunately, Obama is not Moses coming down from the mountain of God
to do a miracle!, and he is far too nice to call for the sword. If Obama
does not act soon, he can remain up in the clouds in the mountains, for
the war will soon be over, to the disappointment for those yearning for
a change and who had voted for Him. This
is indeed a modern day tragedy of a liberal so caught up in his liberal
ideology of inclusiveness and doing the right thing to avoid a great
depression and for health care reform that he had forgotten that
survival comes first when you are out of a job, or when you are denied
the right to marry your loved ones just because you were gay.
Obama’s greatest mistake was that he was out of touch with the humanity
of those who had supported Him and those who are suffering because of
the economic crisis in an America where the rich firms are making
billions under Obama’s watch effectively undermining Obama’s message
that he really do care for the poor and the outcasts. For Gays, nothing
has changed – DADT and DOMA still there. Ultimately Glenn Beck was
filling a great void of deep despair by a President who has got his
priorities and focus wrong. In the greatest of ironies, even Glenn Beck
now supports gay marriage whilst Obama does not, symbolizing how far
away Obama was from the heart and pulse of America.
